About Martha Pettigrew

Formerly an illustrator, Martha Pettigrew has established herself as one of the foremost contemporary sculptors. Her work has been accepted in such prestigious and exclusive exhibitions as: Annual Exhibition of the American Academy of Equine Artists, Museum of the Horse, Lexington, Kentucky; Settlers West's, The Great American West Show, Tucson, Arizona; Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum's, Birds in Art; and Loveland High Plains Art Council's, Sculpture in the Park.

A breeder and owner of Thoroughbred horses for more than twenty years, Martha is completely at ease with the horse as a subject for her sculpture. About her work, Martha says: I find the horse an endless source of inspiration in my art. I find it challenging to capture the essence of the animal in a manner in which the viewer will feel the power, grace, and intelligence that has made the horse a favorite subject of artists since early man painted on cave walls. It is my hope that the sculpture will become a source of inspiration to those viewing it.

Martha and her husband Delmar, have enjoyed attending major races such as the Kentucky Derby and the Breeders Cup Races. Their racing and breeding stock are kept in Kentucky, Florida, and California.

Martha's work is found in major collections including: Eastman Kodak Company, Rochester, New York; J.P. Morgan Company, New York; Nebraska Racing Hall of Fame, Grand Island, Nebraska, Anheuser Busch distributors, Columbus, Ohio, and Grand Island, Nebraska; Hyatt Regency at Gainey Ranch, Scottsdale, Arizona; Hilton Hotel and Convention Center, Sedona, Arizona, and many others.

Jumeira Beach Magazine, published in Dubai, and circulated worldwide, recently featured Martha's equine works in a major article. (see Jumeira Beach, Sculpted Forms of Martha Pettigrew, July-August-September, 2001)
